Kate’s Sandwich Bar is a straightforward, welcoming café located conveniently in the garage area on Aldham Bridge, right off Wombwell Lane. It serves up hearty sandwiches that clearly appeal to both locals and travelers, especially those making pit stops along the nearby Trans Pennine Trail or taking care of errands in the area, like tyre fittings at ATS Euromasters just down the road.

The vibe here is friendly and unpretentious, with staff who are genuinely attentive and quick to help, making it a comfortable spot whether you’re dropping in for a quick breakfast bite or something more filling mid-day. The sandwiches, especially the bacon and tomato options, come generous with fillings, served on local Potts Tea cakes that add a regional touch you don’t always find in chain cafes. The coffee isn’t fancy, sticking mostly to instant varieties, but it does the job for a quick caffeine lift.

Visitors with dogs should take note that Kate’s is dog friendly, occasionally offering small treats for furry companions, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of off-street parking means it’s easily accessible if you’re travelling by car, and the location makes it a practical stop whether you’re cycling, driving, or just out for a casual local lunch.

This café fits best for those looking for a no-fuss, satisfying sandwich in a welcoming, low-key setting—ideal for locals catching up on a midweek ride or anyone in need of a bite and friendly service in this part of Barnsley. Weekday evenings during bike nights bring a particular community feel, making it a good spot to unwind and connect with others who share a love of cycling.

Stopped here for a coffee and bacon sandwich whilst my car was having new tyres fitted at the nearby ATS Euromasters. Nice sandwich on local Potts Tea cake. Instant coffee was OK. Staff attentive and friendly. A good stopping point if you are travelling on the near by trans pennine trail, dog friendly too. There is also ample off street parking for those travelling on the road. Highly recommend this delightfully quaint little gem

Bought a couple of bacon/ tomato sandwiches from here and I have to say it was one of the best I've had from a cafe.( lots of bacon in there too.) Pleasant staff and quick service.
